Why is UPS so much more competent than any of the other delivery services Amazon uses? I got my December/January box today, three days after it was shipped, no fuss no muss.

Contents:

  • The Return of the King Extended Edition DVD (Bounce!)

  • Crusade (ill-fated B5 spinoff) on DVD

  • City of Pearl by Karen Traviss.

  • Issola, by Steven Brust

  • Sunshine, by Robin McKinley

City of Pearl I think is the first thing I've grabbed purely on an LJ recommendation, though I forget whose. It looks promising so far -- somewhere in the same corner of SF occupied by Kristine Smith and K. D. Wentworth; SF with characters and a setting that doesn't completely lose touch with reality. Some Cherryh comes close, but Cherryh does so many different things.

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around and look for the "coolest" book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.

Sunshine, by Robin McKinley, was actually in the chair with me, because I've just been entering the new arrivals in the database.

The table knife in question was lying on the one clear space on Jesse's desk.

Mission Statement
