So this morning I went over to Receiving, and there was my box! It was even in reusable shape, which is more than I can say for the last couple of shipments. So now I have a copy of The Family Trade by Charles Stross to augment the backlog, and also The Art of Discworld, which looks gorgeous and doesn't, according to my idiosyncratic ways of reckoning these things, count towards the backlog or the monthly quota.

Just over a month ago, after over a year of construction, and with much fanfare, the Alumni Plaza was unveiled on the UofA campus: fountains; a cute if unrealistic sculpture; a path paved with snippets of university tradition; trees and benches; a "Heritage Hill" consisting of a banked-up oval of lawn. The whole thing, of course, is copiously annotated with the names of its sponsors. Most of the lettering is sensibly graven into the concrete, but some of it is in the form of detachable brass letters.

This lunchtime, I wandered by there and noticed a sign reading 'Her tag Hill'. Yes, someone has been stealing the brass letters. Yes, it's mildly amusing. It's also more than a little depressing that someone would carry out that kind of destruction for the sake of a weak joke.
