I went to the theatre this evening -- the Gaslight Theatre, to be precise -- with a group from work.

It was an entertaining evening. It wasn't art, but it was good clean fun, with special effects so self-consciously hokey that they were gags in their own right, and the audience encouraged to boo and cheer as appropriate. Suspension of disbelief isn't required, except possibly at some meta level where the audience takes part in and sustains the illusion that everyone is having fun. Not being used to live theatre, I was surprised all over again how small the stage was, and how much larger than life the actors looked on it. I suspect I missed a lot of the references, but 'Leroy the redneck reindeer' did manage to bridge the cultural divide. The pizza wasn't bad, either.
