Yes, definitely a cold
Dec. 29th, 2004 07:08 pmNot a terribly bad one, so far, just annoying. And it's raining, on and off.
So I've been sitting in my recliner all day, working over the internet. Thanks to broadband, it's not much less convenient than sitting in the library at work; thanks to Cygwin, it's almost as good as sitting in the office, though the Cygwin X-windowing system does tend to die after a couple of hours of heavy use.
I turned off CNN after a while, though it's probably going back on soon. All those shots of turquoise sea washing around wreckage and bodies, and the numbers keep going up and up. I suppose it's inevitable that the voices we hear are those of white Europeans and Americans who were holidaying there, many of them the fortunate ones who seem to have suffered nothing much worse than a spoiled holiday; the people who live there, who have to go on living there, are silent grief-stricken faces. Throwing money out into the ether seems like a pitifully small response. Amazon have put up a link for donating to the Red Cross, just like they did after 9/11.
