ellarien: cactus (desert)
[personal profile] ellarien
The evening light at this time of year is exquisite, like golden silk, and around sunset the Catalina mountains to the north light up purple-pink, Tucson's answer to the Alpenglow.

I was contemplating the Catalinas as I rode the bus home, and wondering why they don't excite me nearly as much as the humbler hills around Sheffield. They're much higher, much more rugged and exotic -- but I don't know their names, or their paths; they aren't my mountains. Kinder Scout, Mam Tor, Carl Wark and Higger Tor, Win Hill and Lose Hill; those are the names of the hills I know, the high places I walked with my father long ago.
